Enjoy the company of the elders. every weekend during the summer. Elders will be invited to visit the camp to share stories of the Tsimshians, either in legends or stories of their youth. They also will be putting up fish for winter use.
Located in the famous inside passage Annette Island has a temperate climate that is perfect for the outdoorsman. With the islands natural beauty, there is a lot to see, including majestic Mt Tamgass, fjords rich with wildlife and pine forests, and much more.
FISH CAMP
Consists of a central fire and cook area surrounded by cabins in case you want to spend more than one day with us.
DAY 1
Depending on the time of day you arrive you can either go straight to the fishing grounds or take a nature walk.
Enjoy the laid back lifestyle but if you want you can also start the day with a early morning fishing expedition.(6 am) spend the morning fishing, trolling or jigging for bottom fish or both if time permits. While you are fishing you can take a few minutes to watch the local fishermen haul in their catch and set up their fishing gear.
You can enjoy a fresh fish cooked lunch from a portion of your catch. After lunch you will be taught how we preserve our catch for later consumption and select from a variety of activities related to the subsistance lifestyle of the Tsimshian culture. Evening activities can include bon fires under the open sky, Native drumming and dancing and more.

EXPLORING
If you would prefer to focus on exploring the beauty of Southeast Alaska you can charter one of our boats with an expert Native guide and circumnavigate the island. You can enjoy watching our local commercial fishermen haul in their fishing gear and their catch. Watch the hump back whaleS feeding with their young and other marine life that surround the island in their journey north or south.
Learn from Tsimshian experts how to search the bays and shore line for edible food and bring them back to camp for your authentic Native dinner.
There is so much to do and see it can't be described here. You just have to come and experience the life style of the Tsimshians of Annette Island Alaska.
